Anyways, my friend Boris inspired me to pen the following parable. I'm really rather proud of it. http://geekwhisperer.blogspot.com/2008/10/parable.html. Boris himself has a starring role. Alas, when I went to visit him yesterday, he was gone. He either defected to Nvidia or got et by a bird.

Why Barack Obama Reminds Me of Joan Jett
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jackie-fuchs/why-barack-obama-reminds_b_121621.html
Here are a couple of quotes to give you a flavor:
"By the time I auditioned for the band (the Runaways) they had added
Cherie and Lita, both of whom grabbed your attention immediately. Joan
kind of faded into the mix. . ."
"When I met Barack Obama, in our first year of law school, . . ."
I think the best I can offer is:
"When I met Ladka Litwinowica in our first year of grad school. . ."

[Zero] Our honorary member...
Good things come in threes. Weird things come in all shapes and sizes. And time flies like a banana, of course. Which brings me to two Zero Moments occurring in the last 12 or so hours.
In reverse order, the first (meaning last) was the uncovering of this post from our Honorary Zero, Tony Bourdain. I am amazed he's not on the list, except I suspect that any mention of Country Music would induce projectile vomiting in him (which, given his dietary regimen, is saying something). http://anthony-bourdain-blog.travelchannel.com/2008/07/guns-and-butter.html . Read it. He is the King of us all.
And if Bourdain is king, then the Queen is indisputably Geena Davis. Or at least it WAS before she became the first amazone archer president-Make-Believe of the US (PMBOTUS) over seven feet tall. I just happened, in a daze brought on by burnt curry and jet lag, upon the last half hour of "The Long Kiss Goodnight", with Geena as the lead playing some mashup of La Femme Nikita and Amy Winehouse. What a Godholy mess that was. I am amazed I haven't seen it before. Oh, wait, I did. And I even posted about it. And I remember it--something about flaming corpses on strings of Christmas lights. A&E was (seriously) playing it last night, followed by the Usual Suspects. I know which is the better movie, and you, in your Heart of Hearts, do too.
So my advice to you? Go get The Long Kiss Goodnight. Follow it up with an intermission of No Reservations (either the Nugent episode or the Iceland one, for obvious reasons). Then, Van Helsing. Or maybe Hellboy II, subtitled "What the HELL?"

[Zero] Musical discovery: Joe Purdy
Of the 2 albums, I like Only Four Seasons better. And if you want to support lesser-known artists, you can download his albums from cdbaby.com-- they say the artists get something like 91% of the price.

Re: [Zero] a favor
So just to be on the safe side, I borrowed my daughter's el cheapo mini-stereo and fired up Garage Band. I now have a CD that sounds as good as the cassette does ... and I sent the "arrogance online store" some email ... as well as Don Dixon's management company.
But if any of you happen to be at an Arrogance show, and see a copy of the Lively CD for sale (it's rumored they sell them at shows), please get one for me!!
In case you forgot what NC was like in the 80's :

I remember Arrogance – had a tape that went with me to Colorado and multiple people really liked them. Can't recall the album though …
I don't see Lively on Spiral Frog – only a Cats Cradle live recording (Arrogance Live at Cat's Cradle 08/14/2004). Do you have a URL?

Yo,
So. Anybody out there besides Rich and me remember "Arrogance"? late-70's early-80's regional NC band.
Right before Rich went to Benin, I recorded his copy of "Lively". I love that tape. Both it and my tape deck are showing signs of age.
There is a download service called "Spiral Frog" which claims to have Lively available for download, but I can't do it, they appear to be resolving my IP address to 'outside the states' and it refuses my registration.
Can somebody download it for me and put it up somewhere I can get it? Spiral Frog claims to be free.
Thx.

[Zero] The Wasmopolitan Cavalcade of Recorded Music
So am I like the last person on the planet to discover Don Was' corner at My Damn Channel?
http://www.mydamnchannel.com/explore.aspx?channel=59
I can recommend the Wasmopolitan Dance Party with Jill Sobule, but especially especially in the video section ... Don seems to be recording things live in the studio with videocameras running ... Stephen Bruton's "Gettin' Over You".
